Cllr Jon Hubbard proposes 0% increase in precept for Melksham residents this year

Following the meeting of Melksham Town Council on Monday evening local Cllr Jon Hubbard was delighted that the council agreed his proposal for a zero increase in precept for Band D properties this year, keeping residents’ living costs down and allowing them to invest in the community.

Melksham Town Council have proposed that the precept for Band D properties remain unchanged for the 2023/24 financial year, helping those on lower incomes or who are facing financial difficulties due to the cost-of-living crisis. The extra money saved can be used by residents on other items such as food, bills, or leisure activities.

The council has maintained its commitment to delivering for residents with funding still being found for street improvements, community events, refurbished children’s play areas and other community projects.

Cllr Jon Hubbard says 0% rise important this year

Speaking after the meeting Jon commented, “I’m delighted with the outcome of this evening’s budget debate. A lot of work by a lot of people has gone into producing this budget which recognises the challenges many of our residents are facing. We have been able to bring together the best of all our collective ambitions to create a budget and financial plan for the next year, which is realistic, deliverable, and sympathetic to the impact of the cost-of-living crisis.”

The final budget was passed by the council with unanimous support from all members present.
