Melksham Councillor Represents Local Community at National Children and Adult Services Conference

Jon Hubbard, Councillor for Melksham South, has been representing the interests of local residents this week at the National Children and Adult Services (NCAS) Conference in Liverpool. As Chair of the Children’s Select Committee at Wiltshire Council and Vice-Chair of the Children and Young People’s Board at the Local Government Association (LGA), Jon has been actively engaging in discussions and workshops on key issues affecting children, young people, and families.

The NCAS Conference is a vital forum where leaders from councils across the UK come together to share best practices, address challenges, and shape the future of social care and children’s services. Jon’s participation ensures that the voices of Melksham residents, particularly children and families, are represented at the national level.

Speaking about his attendance, Jon Hubbard said:

“This week has been an invaluable opportunity to not only contribute to national conversations but also bring back insights and strategies that will directly benefit the people of Melksham. From improving support for care leavers to reforming children’s social care and making schools more inclusive, the lessons learned here can help us deliver better services locally.”

Key sessions attended by Jon include:

Children’s Social Care Reform: Breaking down barriers to opportunity for vulnerable children.

Support for Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs: Exploring ways to provide tailored support.

Empowering Personal Advisors: Ensuring the best possible support for care leavers.

Inclusive Education Practices: Implementing systematic approaches across schools and academies.

In addition, Jon had the opportunity to question Janet Daby MP, the new Minister for Children and Young People, on ending the inefficiencies of bid-based funding systems that place unnecessary strain on local councils.

Jon’s involvement with the LGA also plays a crucial role in shaping national policies that impact local communities. As Vice-Chair of the Children and Young People’s Board, he works to influence government decisions on funding, safeguarding, and access to essential services.

“Residents of Melksham benefit from my work at conferences like this because it allows me to bring their needs to the forefront of national decision-making while ensuring that Wiltshire is implementing the most effective and innovative solutions for our community,” Jon added.

Jon Hubbard’s dedication to ensuring Melksham’s voice is heard at every level of government demonstrates his commitment to improving the lives of local residents and ensuring that children and families receive the support they need to thrive.
