Local Councillor Jon Hubbard is pleased to welcome the opening of a new “Man Down” mental health support group in Melksham, dedicated to supporting men through mental health challenges. This expansion comes after the success of the group’s Trowbridge sessions and will run every other Tuesday evening at Bowerhill Village Hall, with the inaugural session on Tuesday, November 5th at 7:00 pm.
The new group, founded by Chris Smith, who also established the Trowbridge sessions, is part of the growing “Man Down” network—a grassroots initiative that began in Cornwall and has since expanded to provide safe spaces for men to open up about mental health. The Melksham group aims to offer accessible, confidential support for men in the community as they face the unique pressures of modern life.
Melksham Councillor, Jon Hubbard, a longtime advocate for mental health in the Melksham area and chair of the charity 4Youth (South West), has dedicated over a decade to providing mental health support for young people through the charity’s in-demand TeenTalk counselling service. Jon shared his enthusiasm for the new group, saying, “I am delighted to see ‘Man Down’ open a support group here in Melksham. This is a fantastic addition to our community and will be invaluable in providing ongoing support for young people as they move into adulthood, helping them navigate the challenges they face.”
Councillor Hubbard and 4Youth (South West) continue to work actively on mental health initiatives to ensure local residents have access to the resources they need. This new group will help bridge the gap, providing critical support to individuals in Melksham.
