Cllr Jon Hubbard

Wiltshire Councillor for Melksham South

Serving the community across Melksham

At Monday's Melksham Town Council meeting Councillors were horrified to hear that it was possible that Melksham's sorting office could be closing.

Should the sorting office close, residents and businesses would have to travel to Chippenham or Trowbridge to collect undelivered items, or pay punitive fees to collect undelivered items from a local post office.

The closure could result in job losses in the town.

Speaking after the meeting, local councillor Jon Hubbard said "this is another potential blow for Melksham. How can the Royal Mail possibly consider not having a sorting office in Wiltshire's fourth largest town.

"Wiltshire Council need to lobby the Royal Mail to make sure that this closure does not happen. I will be writing to the Royal Mail, and the Town Council wil be contacting the Royal Mail and our local MP Duncan Hames."
