The tennis courts at Melksham Community Campus will be available for public use starting Monday, September 16, following an agreement between Wiltshire Council, Melksham Tennis Club, and the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) regarding future management and public access.
Wiltshire Council announced that the two courts will provide a high-quality sporting facility for the community, offering an opportunity to enjoy tennis all year round. Located behind the main campus building, these hard courts are equipped with floodlights, allowing extended play hours, regardless of the season.
Cllr Jon Hubbard, the local Wiltshire councillor, expressed his happiness at the resolution of the issue. “I am really pleased that this matter has finally been resolved. The courts are a valuable asset to our community, and it’s great to see them now publicly available. This is a fantastic step forward for encouraging active lifestyles and promoting tennis in Melksham.”
Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, Wiltshire Council’s cabinet member for leisure and operational assets, said, “One of our key business plan priorities is to enhance our community facilities and promote active and healthy lifestyles. As such, we are delighted to have reached an arrangement that makes the courts available for local residents to use. The courts are not only high-quality, but with the floodlights, people will be able to make use of the facility later into the evening and all year round. I encourage everyone to get booking their courts, and I look forward to meeting Wiltshire’s next Andy Murray, Emma Raducanu, or Jack Draper.”
Melksham Tennis Club will still have designated access to the courts during specific hours in both the winter and summer months. The agreement follows significant investment from Wiltshire Council and the LTA to upgrade the courts, which have been recently refurbished with tarmac surfaces maintained to a high standard.
Wiltshire Council has also introduced an online booking system, developed in collaboration with the LTA, for easy access to the courts. Public bookings can be made at £5.80 per session, available daily from 8am to 10pm, subject to prior bookings.
The council has partnered with the LTA’s court booking platform, ClubSpark, to manage bookings. To book a court, users can create an account on ClubSpark's website, and they will receive a digital access code by email before their scheduled court time.
