Cllr Jon Hubbard welcomes investment in Church Street Car Park Resurfacing and Installation of new Parking Charging Machines

Wiltshire Council will be resurfacing part of the Church Street car park in Melksham later this month, with a focus on improving the disabled parking bays to increase safety and accessibility.

The work will be carried out on the 30 and 31 of July, although this may be subject to change dependent on weather conditions.

During this time the disabled bays will be moved and signs will be in place to show the temporary relocation. This will allow the works to be carried out safely.

As part of the works, new parking machines will be installed in August and placed to provide easier access for people with disabilities. The new machines will be more reliable and will accept cash, plus contactless payments with card or mobile phone. People can also pay by text or the MiPermit app if they wish to.

Wiltshire Councillor for Melksham South, Jon Hubbard, commented "I am delighted with the council's decision to invest in the resurfacing of our car park and the installation of new, state-of-the-art parking charging machines. This initiative is a significant step forward in improving our local infrastructure, ensuring that our community benefits from safer, more accessible, and more convenient parking facilities.

"The resurfacing of the car park will address long-standing issues with wear and tear, providing a smoother and more durable surface for all users. This improvement will enhance the overall experience for residents and visitors, contributing to the attractiveness and functionality of our local area.

"In addition to the resurfacing, the installation of new parking charging machines represents a much-needed upgrade. These machines will offer a more user-friendly and efficient payment process, reducing frustration and saving time for all who use the car park.

"However, I urge the council to ensure that the new machines are installed in locations that best serve all members of our community. Specifically, I request that the new parking charging machines be sited closer to the current disabled parking spaces. This adjustment will provide greater convenience and accessibility for individuals with disabilities.

"Furthermore, it is imperative that the new machines are DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) compliant and fully suitable for wheelchair users. Accessibility should be a top priority, and I trust that the council will take the necessary steps to ensure that these new installations meet the highest standards of inclusivity.

"This investment is a positive development for our community, and I look forward to seeing the benefits it will bring. I am confident that, with careful planning and consideration, we can create a car park that is welcoming and accessible to all."
