The next stage of the footway improvements in the Town Centre is set to start soon.
Wiltshire Council intends to carry out works to improve the footway on the western side of the High Street in Melksham, between the Market Place and the signalised pedestrian crossing. The works will involve excavating the existing surface and laying new slabs and kerbs to match the market place.
The works will take approximately five weeks and will commence on Monday 22 June 2020. It is proposed that the contractors will complete the work in two phases commencing at the northern and working southwards. This may change if the businesses within phase 1 are able to re-open earlier than the assumed 4 July as currently indicated by the government.
In order to ensure the safety of both the council contractors and the public it will be necessary to close the footway and divert pedestrians onto the eastern footway. Access to all businesses will be maintained throughout, as and when they re-open. The traffic will be managed by with the use of three way temporary traffic signals. Throughout the work it will be necessary to close the taxi rank outside of Lloyds Bank and relocate the bus stop outside Melksham United Methodist Church.
