An update on the revisions to the Wiltshire Housing Site Allocation Plan

Councillors have received a briefing on the proposed changes to the Wiltshire Housing Site Allocation Plan which were approved by the council’s Cabinet last week and will be being presented for adoption to Full Council on the 25th February.

The revised proposals include a number of changes proposed by the Inspector which have to be accepted as a whole and cannot be amended. The only options available to councillors on the day will be to accept the new plan as a whole, or to reject the modified plan.

The proposed changes to require some additional house building but this will not directly impact on Melksham, as the town has already seen significant growth inside the life-cycle of the current plan.

It is important for Melksham though, as adoption of the revised plan will help the county to maintain its 5 year land supply – essential to control development.

The revised plan does not affect the delivery of infrastructure to support future or current development so gives no additional information on the proposed Melksham by-pass or provision of other services in the town.
